From Alaior town, take the road to Son Bou beach. About 6 kilometres, you have to take a
turn off on your right, it´s well indicated. About 5 minutes by car you will arrive to a
prehistorical enclosure called Torralba de´n Galmes, where you will find the Taula.

It´s known that the Taulas are known as Talaiotic III period monuments (from 800 to 450
b.C.), they are made by two blocks of rectangular shape. One
of them is situated in vertical position, fixed in the ground, while the other one is
located on the first in horizontal position. Precisely, its name is given by this shape,
Taula (table in Catalan). But a lot of investigators think about the relation between the
name, shape and the symbol of Tau.
Their purpose is unknown. It´s supposed they were used as rituals elements. It´s a mystery, how they were built.

The Taula or "the powerful wooden geometry", name given by Carlos Garrido, is a
unique monument from megalithic culture in the world.
Nowadays, in Menorca there are seven, but there were a lot more of them and were destroyed. There are two things to say about the Taula: It´s a huge monument and has superhuman character. It´s the symbol of the supreme proportion, Cosmos balance and the chaos, geometrical expression and mathematics from divine.
The popular Menorcan tradition, to explain their dimension and give a different point of view to this enigmatic monument, according to the locals we are told that this kind of monuments were tables which belonged to giants, ancient inhabitants of the island.
Taulas are the most controversial
monuments in Menorca: places to make sacrifices, central column from a big temple, Tau
symbol, representation of pitagorian Pi number, diagram representation of Bull god, cosmic
watch...Precisely, two people from Germany, interested in archaeology and a astronomy,
Doris Knösel and Peter Hochsieder, are studying, from 20 years ago, the relation between
Taulas and stars. Their hypothesis are different from other archaeologists. They think
that taulas were used by talaiotic people to observe movements of the sun, the moon and
the most important stars in a fixed position from the Cosmos. Their hypothesis is that the
knowledge from talaiothical people were excellent in mathematics, geometry and astronomy.
Another point of view is given by Guiomar Eguillor, describing taulas as the centre of the world. A lot of people think about magic and protect attributes from these places. However, in 1988 the Taula from Torralba was damaged by vandals. Nuria Molto considers this fact as an important warning. A warning from the nature about our destruction of it. She thinks that it was a warning from the genius that comes from the island: the magic and the soul from other places could also be destroyed.
However, talaiotic people wanted to leave their legacy for eternity in the shape of a taula. It was their point of view of the world. A monument which is going on through time and different civilisations. An spectacular example of the communication between humans and Cosmos through stone.
