It´s a little town close to Mao, before the port, take the turning-off to Sa Mesquida, about 4 kilometres from the capital of Menorca.

It´s a classical holiday place for people from Mao, Sa Mesquida keeps the flavour from the coast nucleus, which hasn´t suffered the same damage of other tourist areas.

Here, the French-Spanish troops, landed in 1781 to conquer the island, with their leader "Duque de Crillón". When the English people dominated Menorca, they built a surveillance tower close to the beach. It´s one of the eleven towers built for the English people between 1798 and 1802 and one of the most impressive on the island.

Nowadays restored, it´s an strategic point to observe one of the most interesting places in Menorca, "La Mola", an impressive cliff which is at the beginning of the Mao port.

Sa Mesquida - it´s a beach which you can find a lot of people from Menorca. The large area of sand has 320 metres in length and 80 metres in width.

Raconada de Sa Mesquida Vella - it´s an excellent alternative to the crowded beach of Sa Mesquida. It´s totaly wild and it´s made from rocks. It´s very dark with shade from ochre to ground colours. You can practice nudism. It has 70 metres in length and 80 metres in width.

 

The summer town party in Sa Mesquida is the first weekend in September. During three days they organise some sports and religious events, dancings, games, cavalcades and the traditional "jaleo". This party ends on Monday with a final string of fireworks.

You can enjoy this party and taste some typical products like "gin con limonada" (a drink made on the island) and another gastronomical alternatives such as sweet and salted bread, cheese and some typical products from pork like "sobrasada".
